The Conservative Order and the Challenges of Reform (1815-1832)
After the Napoleonic Age and the Congress of Vienna, conservative powers revived their power and influence over Europe. This era opened the doors to significant international relations between the powers of Europe and ushered in a new sentiment of nationalism and liberalism. The French Revolution's influence, however, had been far too powerful, and the 1830's saw revolutions break out in Greece, the Balkans, Poland, Belgium, and of course, France. As Metternich said, "When France sneezes, Europe catches cold." Britain, however, distinguished itself from other European powers by bringing about reform in a more civilized parliamentary fashion, while Spain dealt with the most fiery aftermath of its wars with Napoleon: the revolutions for independence in Latin America.
